Many answers enter my mind when asked the question why I want to become a medical transcriptionist.  First and foremost would have to be my family.  I have a husband and three wonderful children who are all under the age of 7.  I would enjoy more free time to enjoy my kids while they are still young.  Just the other day I heard another mother say “I can’t believe that I have already spent half my time with my daughter that I’m going to get”.  Not knowing exactly what the woman meant I asked her “what do you mean by that”?  She replied by saying “my daughter is nine and I have had her for half the time she will live with me.”  That really hit me deep to think that my twin daughters are six years old and like that mother, me and my husband have almost spend half our time with them.  Where the time has went and what have we as a family done?  Then I thought what if I had more time to give.  But how?  Then the answer came to me, why not look into medical transcription work at home.  I am and have for the past eight years worked as a physical therapist assistant (PTA)and have a good background for the medical jargon, MT should be a easy transition for me.

Like I just stated earlier, I am currently a PTA and love what I do, however I have noticed that in the last few months that I am getting stuck in a downward spiral at work, and may need a change of environment.  Then the big question hits, what, where, and how.  We are not financially stable enough for me to quit and return back to school or when would I find the time.  About a year ago, I tried to return to school and become a earlier education teacher online, but that was about impossible with a full time PTA and mother of three, I never had enough time for hitting the books.  The most appealing thing about getting a MT certified is the fact I can learn at my pace, no deadlines.  What is more perfect for a working mother?

At home medical transcription jobs would give me the opportunity to have a flexible schedule and continue to hold a job as a PTA and give me the chance to only work as a PTA at a PRN basis and give me that well deserved break I am looking for and need.

Where do I see my self as a MT?  Hum, good question.  I see my career as a MT to start of gradual then grow into something much more.  Hopefully given my family the relief from stress of the everyday struggles of the same old thing each day for the last eight years.  First step would be to obtain a certificate, get a job and hopefully build a new career.  One of the first steps after I start on receiving my certificate would be to help others along my path to freedom. In closing, I have chose becoming a MT for the following reason, more time with family, closely related to current job and flexibility of schedule.   Plus the ability to learn at my own pace.
