I Want to Remain in the Medical Field

I would like to become a medical transcriptionist because I feel like I would be able to remain in the medical field without having to do the everyday patient care. I have medical issues that have hindered me from continuing on my path of becoming a nurse. I am recovering from back surgery done earlier this year and I have not been authorized to return to work. This back surgery was done because of degenerative discs. I feel that if I could do medical transcription at home. I would be able to do the work every day without the constraints of being in an office setting. I love to type and currently type 80 WPM and feel that I could help a doctor or other medical facilities by transcribing what they have dictated in a timely manner. Being as I am unable to return to the work force out in the community I believe that I would be able to use my expertise in medical terminology as well as anatomy and physiology to expedite the transcription process.

Some of the advantages of getting into the medical transcription industry are that I am able to work from my own home. I would have the ability to do some work and if I needed to get up for a few minutes to stretch or because of back pain I would be able to do so without any hesitation. Another advantage would be that I could go with my husband to medical appointments as he is disabled without having to worry about having to take personal time off of work to do it. The main advantage for me is that I would still be working in the medical profession which I love. Since my medical problems started I have not been able to work in the nursing homes or hospitals because I can no longer do the direct patient care.

With being a medical transcriptionist I would still be able to keep all of the medical terms and procedures fresh in my mind and use them to help the physicians have the information in a timely manner. Some of the reasons why I would like to train with Future MT are because I have researched at home medical transcription jobs and the Future MT’s site explained everything about the profession. There were different tabs readily accessible for me to go into and have all of my questions answered. After reading the information on the site I feel like this is definitely is a career that I would thoroughly enjoy doing for many years to come. SN:0MA9N2ESY

A benefit that I find very interesting and glad to see is that there is support that I can go to if I need it for any reason. As well I found a great benefit is that there are employment guarantees that would help me to find a job once I have finished the course. Some of the future goals that I have in the MT industry are first, that I will be able to work hard to make sure pass the course without any problem. Once I do pass this course and start working in the field I will find out what I would need to do in order to become certified as this will help even more with that employer as well as any other that may be interested in my skills. Once I am certified I can then network myself on different web sites so that I am able to recruit more doctors or facilities for me to work with.

Future Career in Medical Transcription

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

I would like to train/study for the position of Medical Transcriptionist in your company, MT future. I am a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Our Lady of Fatima University Philippines last march 2008. I really like the health care field. Earlier in my career I worked as a volunteer nurse later I worked as a medical representative, but I realized that I wanted to stay in the field of medical. I’m task oriented and self-motivated. I like to have a chunk of work to do and get it done. It’s like I’m in a competition with myself, how many lines can I get done today. I also really like typing and I like words. I like bringing a sense of perfection to the job.

The best part of at home medical transcription jobs is the flexibility. I love working from home. I love being able to work anytime Some advantages of working in the MT industry are time gained, patients physical reports, operative reports, consultation notes, laboratories and discharge summaries. Another great advantage of medical transcriptionist work at home is that you set your own goals and limits. Unless you are working at an hourly rate, there is no limit to how much money you can make. In the beginning, everyone usually works for someone at an average pay rate, but with time, pay increases. You are the one who decides when it is time for an increase in pay. If you work for yourself and have your own accounts, then you can charge at your own rate.
Those who work for a medical transcription company can apply to a better paying company once they feel they are ready to move on from making what they currently make to more. Parents with children have an advantage when they choose to become a medical transcriptionist. Working from home means that you do not have to pay for daycare if you do not choose to do so. Parents who are just starting off may not prefer to put their children in daycare, especially if they are still very small. Parents who work regular jobs miss out on a lot of their kid’s lives. Many people are motivated by their children to become a medical transcriptionist simply because they want to stay home with them as much as possible. There are really no downsides to being a medical transcriptionist. The hardest part is training, and if you can get through that, then you can make it through just about anything your career has to throw at you. SN:0MA9N2ESY

There may be a few times when you have trouble understanding what the doctor is saying, but that is completely normal and happens to some of the most experienced transcriptionists. When this happens, just get up and go for a walk or do something else for a few minutes before returning to your desk to give it another try. Other than that, everything else is a complete breeze. If you are seriously considering medical transcription as a career, then you are about to find out just how enjoyable work can really be. When you are doing something you truly love, it will never feel like work.
Medical transcription comes with plenty of added bonuses that make it quite possibly the best work at home job out there. I’m interested in training with future MT, because I believe that it would contribute to my professional development. Maintain medical files and databases, including records such as x-ray, lab, and procedure reports, medical histories, diagnostic workups, admission and discharge summaries, and clinical resumes. Which actually line up to my course as a professional nurse? After five years or ten years, I see myself settled in the United States with my family. Still working and excelling my chosen career which is my own MT business.

Medical Transcriptionist

Monday, February 8th, 2010

From the time I graduated high school, many years ago, I have always had an interest in court reporting as my field of choice, but my career was put aside while raising children as my priority for many years. I have always worked in clerical or customer service positions while raising my three children. Most of my working years were at UPS, until their downsizing. Now I have been in customer service for 5 years in the compound semiconductor business, which I do not find very interesting, but pays the bills.

It is time I worked in a field that I am interested in the most! Like many people, I have a constant need to learn, and expand my knowledge in a variety of fields that interest me. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management after my kids graduated high school in 2001. I continue to read books of interest, and take classes that interest me, most recently a piano class. I have always wanted to take a medical terminology course. When I saw Future MT’s online program, I decided this is something I can schedule on my own time, while taking care of family needs, working full-time, and training for a half-marathon again in January. I feel the job opportunity is there in the medical field. My sister is a General Practitioner, and it will come in handy to know the terminology, when she is discussing anything medical. The course is also a way to better understand the human body, to be aware of one’s own health conditions and other loved ones.

With the situation the economy is in, if my current employer would go under, I do not relish going to interview at another company for just any customer service job, especially with my Bachelor’s Degree. I feel this course will contribute to my pursuit in a CMT career since it is very well designed. With over 300 actual transcription reports, and it is encouraged to transcribe more than once, it is a great learning tool. The learning activities that include crossword puzzles, cognition, beat the clock and strikeout, are a great way to help with the memory by repetition. I feel am responsible to learn each chapter to the best of my ability, on my own, while correcting and checking my own work. It comes natural to me to be a speedy, accurate typist while using good grammar. SN:0MA9N2ESY

So far I have thoroughly enjoyed learning the spelling and definition of many new medical terms. I also have always had a keen interest in looking up information, and find the search for terms to be quite interesting! I do realize that at home medical transcription jobs are not that easy to come by, and in order to be hired, I will need 98% accuracy along with speed and proficiency. Also, experience will come in handy, and of course, that will not be behind me for one or two years down the road. I do have an interest to put my business management skills into practice, by starting my own business in the future. But for now, to work in an office setting and prove my skills or a home environment will be acceptable to me. I am looking forward to completing the course, receiving the Certificate of Completion, updating my resume, and finding out what medical transcription jobs are out there that I might be offered! At that time, I can make a decision about my current position, so as to have a Plan B in place!

At Home MT Work

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Many answers enter my mind when asked the question why I want to become a medical transcriptionist.  First and foremost would have to be my family.  I have a husband and three wonderful children who are all under the age of 7.  I would enjoy more free time to enjoy my kids while they are still young.  Just the other day I heard another mother say “I can’t believe that I have already spent half my time with my daughter that I’m going to get”.  Not knowing exactly what the woman meant I asked her “what do you mean by that”?  She replied by saying “my daughter is nine and I have had her for half the time she will live with me.”  That really hit me deep to think that my twin daughters are six years old and like that mother, me and my husband have almost spend half our time with them.  Where the time has went and what have we as a family done?  Then I thought what if I had more time to give.  But how?  Then the answer came to me, why not look into medical transcription work at home.  I am and have for the past eight years worked as a physical therapist assistant (PTA)and have a good background for the medical jargon, MT should be a easy transition for me.

Like I just stated earlier, I am currently a PTA and love what I do, however I have noticed that in the last few months that I am getting stuck in a downward spiral at work, and may need a change of environment.  Then the big question hits, what, where, and how.  We are not financially stable enough for me to quit and return back to school or when would I find the time.  About a year ago, I tried to return to school and become a earlier education teacher online, but that was about impossible with a full time PTA and mother of three, I never had enough time for hitting the books.  The most appealing thing about getting a MT certified is the fact I can learn at my pace, no deadlines.  What is more perfect for a working mother?

At home medical transcription jobs would give me the opportunity to have a flexible schedule and continue to hold a job as a PTA and give me the chance to only work as a PTA at a PRN basis and give me that well deserved break I am looking for and need.

Where do I see my self as a MT?  Hum, good question.  I see my career as a MT to start of gradual then grow into something much more.  Hopefully given my family the relief from stress of the everyday struggles of the same old thing each day for the last eight years.  First step would be to obtain a certificate, get a job and hopefully build a new career.  One of the first steps after I start on receiving my certificate would be to help others along my path to freedom. In closing, I have chose becoming a MT for the following reason, more time with family, closely related to current job and flexibility of schedule.   Plus the ability to learn at my own pace.
